{"id":38,"date":"2008-06-10T12:42:59","date_gmt":"2008-06-10T19:42:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.williamcherry.com\/?p=38"},"modified":"2018-05-06T01:47:54","modified_gmt":"2018-05-06T08:47:54","slug":"design-camp-2008","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.williamcherry.com\/?p=38","title":{"rendered":"Design Camp"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[ <strong>UPDATE: <\/strong><a title=\"Design Camp 2009\" href=\"http:\/\/3by3.wordpress.com\/2009\/06\/30\/video-matrix-urban-windows-wk1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Follow Design Camp\u00c2\u00a0 2009<\/a> ]<\/p>\n<p>Hosted a series of <em>Animation Workshops<\/em> in conjunction with Design Camp and the <a title=\"CAM.NCSU.EDU\" href=\"http:\/\/cam.ncsu.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Contemporary Art Museum<\/strong><\/a>. This was the first time that a digital animation component was introduced into the Design Camp disciplines and we hope that it will be a sure hit as an additional feature in the future.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"425\" height=\"344\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xtNucvoChzs?wmode=transparent\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen> <\/iframe><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xtNucvoChzs\">\u00c2\u00a0Design Camp 2008 &#8211; Animation Workshop <\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We had a fantastic time trashing the lab and creating some exciting stop motion animations as well as a quick stop action short film. We featured non-stop sessions of storyboards and concept sketches, fruit-loop fights, mock-ups and enthusiastic budding directors. With a lot of help from the event organizers, student TAs, camp counselors and featured returning faculty member <a title=\"Ryan DeWitt\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ryandewitt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ryan DeWitt<\/a> we were able to do a 5-day workshop and showcase 80 student animations and 5 short film animations on the final Saturday Design Camp Reception. A big thanks goes out to <a title=\"Nicole Welch\" href=\"http:\/\/nicolewelch.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nicole Welch<\/a> and Pablo del Valle for helping us organize the events, keeping us on track and stocking us up with supplies!<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Graphic Design @ Design Camp 2008\" href=\"http:\/\/advancedmedialab.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/07\/projectedlight.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-536\" style=\"border: 0pt none; margin: 4px;\" title=\"Graphic Design @ Design Camp 2008\" src=\"http:\/\/advancedmedialab.wordpress.com\/files\/2008\/07\/projectedlight.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"Graphic Design @ Design Camp 2008\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" align=\"right\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\" \/><\/a>Not to be outdone, <a title=\"Santiago\" href=\"http:\/\/ncsudesign.org\/CONTENT\/index.cfm\/fuseaction\/person\/mode\/1\/departmentID\/3\/startRow\/6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Santiago Piedrafita<\/a> &#8211; <em>Chair of the Department of Graphic Design at <a title=\"NCSU College of Design\" href=\"http:\/\/ncsudesign.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NC State University College of Design<\/a><\/em> introduced future design students to the art of Typography and projected light. Emphasis was placed on the process of exploring a visual composition in studies of scale, layering, opposition and tension using graphic pattern, icons and typography. After projecting it at a large scale it allowed students an opportunity to see how layering, juxtaposition and scale change the graphic form and meaning.<\/p>\n<p>The next session for Design Camp is the day camp series starting July 7th and then a final round of overnight Design Campers during the week of July 20th.
